Creating non-toxic, eco-friendly homes: sanctuaries for you and the planet.
A home is more than four walls and a roof.
It’s a place to land, to breathe, to come back to ourselves.
We believe that what surrounds us shapes us, our health, our energy, our way of being. Many modern homes are built with synthetic materials, off-gassing toxins into our air, water, and food. But there’s a more conscious way, one that invites nature in, honors simplicity, and supports life.
Breathing walls: natural paints & conscious materials
Conventional paints are often loaded with VOCs, volatile organic compounds that pollute indoor air. Mineral and plant-based paints are healthier for both people and the planet.
Furniture made from MDF or particle board can release formaldehyde and other chemicals. Solid wood pieces, finished with natural oils, are a safer, more enduring alternative.
A restorative sleep: organic & vegan mattresses
Sleep is where regeneration begins. Many mattresses are made with synthetic foams, fire retardants, and glues that emit harmful fumes over time. Choosing organic, plant-based materials like natural latex, cotton, and coconut husk allows for deep, uninterrupted rest.
Vegan mattresses offer a cruelty-free, chemical-free sleep.
Linen bedding is another beautiful shift, flax vibrates at 5000 Hz (humans average 100 Hz), and its crystalline structure is said to raise our own frequency. It’s breathable, durable, and naturally anti-microbial. In a word: elevated.
Solar-powered glow: light from the sun
Ditching cords and plugs for solar-powered lighting is a small but powerful step. Solar lamps charge during the day and glow at night, quiet, clean, and aligned with the rhythm of nature.
Clean water, clean body: Spring water & filtration
Tap water often contains microplastics, chlorine, and other residues, even in well-regarded systems. Bottled water can leach chemicals from plastic packaging. We suggest our residents to opt for a high-quality filter that retains essential minerals while removing contaminants.
Fresh air: plants, flow & filtration
Indoor air can be more polluted than the outdoors due to synthetic finishes, household products, and poor circulation. Open windows for 15 minutes daily and invite nature in.
Plants like Areca Palm, Monstera, Pothos, and Snake Plant naturally purify the air and add life to any room. A HEPA filter can also help eliminate mold, allergens, and dust particles, offering a breath of fresh forest inside your home.
Mindful choices: second-hand & upcycled pieces
New furniture production is resource-heavy and often toxic. Second-hand items carry character, have already off-gassed, and extend the life cycle of materials.
Upcycling, like turning an old glass jar into a pantry container or reviving a table with natural oil, reduces waste and invites creativity. It’s a quiet act of regeneration.
Nourishing wood: plant-based oils over varnish
Wood doesn’t need harsh varnishes to shine. Natural oils like tung, linseed, walnut, or coconut preserve wood’s integrity while allowing it to breathe.
Cooking without toxins: conscious cookware
Teflon and other non-stick coatings can release dangerous chemicals, especially when overheated. Instead, we choose cast iron, ceramic, and stainless steel—durable, safe, and timeless.
Composting: closing the loop naturally
We are already building circular systems that support the land and the community. When it comes to food waste, we encourage two simple composting options for our residents at this stage of the project:
We suggest two simple composting methods at the moment at The ARK:
Trench composting—an easy, low-tech method where you dig a hole (about 12 to 24 inches deep), place your vegetable scraps inside, and cover it back with soil.
Farm drop-off (coming soon) — for those who prefer a collective system, we’re in the process of setting up a community compost drop-off at The ARK Farm. While the system isn’t fully in place yet, we’re actively working toward creating a space where residents will soon be able to contribute their vegetable waste to our regenerative composting cycle.
A home that breathes with you
Creating a non-toxic, regenerative home is about presence. Each small choice becomes an act of care, aligning us with the rhythms of nature and the values of conscious living.
When your home becomes a sanctuary, it reflects not just how you live, but who you’re becoming.
That is what we’re building.
